Marathon was amazing and excruciating in equal measure! Absolute privilege raising some money for your wonderful charity! - Colin

It was so beautiful and painful. I am so grateful to have done it. It's such a beautiful course with such amazing crowds. - Kiran

On 2nd October 2022, 9 amazing runners took on the London Marathon, all raising money for L’Arche in the UK. Between them, they have managed to raise over £22,000; money which during the current cost of living crisis will help us to support people with and without learning disabilities in L’Arche Communities across the UK.

The world famous London Marathon is definitely a “bucket list” challenge for keen runners. Pounding 26.2 miles of pavement along the River Thames, the L’Arche runners enjoyed some of London’s most iconic sights – the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, the London Eye… to name just a few!

It wasn’t an easy challenge for the runners to undertake, despite all of them training hard, 26.2 miles is a distance not to be sniffed at! Thankfully, all 9 runners managed to cross the finish line, with several of them recording personal bests, a few others swearing to never run a marathon again, but all of them delighted to have raised lots of money for L’Arche!

At L’Arche we want people to flourish and contribute, not just have their basic needs met. We are committed to providing brilliant, person-centred care for each person. But our Communities foster something different too - creativity, friendship, responsibility, full lives and personal growth. Money raised by Team L’Arche at the London Marathon will help us to make the lives of everyone in our communities more colourful and meaningful. Could you help us to achieve that?

The next London Marathon will be taking place on 23rd April 2023 and we do have a couple of charity places left up for grabs. If you can commit to raising a minimum of £2,000 for L’Arche and you’re already a keen runner, and a UK resident over the age of 18, you can apply for a place on our website.

Join Team L’Arche and take on this globally recognised challenge for a really great cause!
