For over fifty years, L’Arche has been a place for people who want change. People with and without learning disabilities.

When we started, people with learning disabilities were fighting for their freedom. We supported them to escape long-stay mental institutions, to gain a foothold in society, surrounded by friends and family.

But the struggle for real inclusion isn’t over. People with learning disabilities still suffer the effects of exclusion, stigma and discrimination: higher mortality rates than the average population, higher rates of loneliness, poor mental health.

In our fifty-year history, we have become a beacon for excellent care and life-giving community. We could not have achieved so much without legacy gifts. New and refurbished homes, innovative projects, other life-enhancing initiatives – these would not have been possible without gifts in wills.
