This year’s Walking Together event on 25th June was a huge success! We’ve seen several hundred challengers raising money for L’Arche International in the most creative of ways. Some wanted to take things a step further - and they did!

On a sunny summer’s day, a team of four challengers – John, Laura, Hazel and Lucy – met up 7am to begin their quest to visit 38 Embassies in one day! Starting at the USA Embassy in London and calling in at Kenyan, Indian, Polish and Mexican Embassies to name a few. It was their way of showing solidarity to each L’Arche Community across the world.

Together they had a long day of multitasking! John was in charge of carrying a beautiful cardboard boat kindly crafted by folk in L’Arche London. Hazel was engaging with passersby, answering questions about L’Arche, while Laura and Lucy made sure the team visited every single embassy on the list. They took 11 hours to complete their challenge and they each walked no less than 20 miles in total!

But that’s not all – along the way our team were kindly invited for coffee by Croatian Ambassador, Igor Pokaz, who gave them space to discuss who we are and what challenges we face as L’Arche International. They even had to make an emergency stop at St James Piccadilly church where people brought all sorts of tools to help them mend a broken boat!

Collectively the team raised a staggering total of £7,689! We are so proud of John, Lucy, Laura and Hazel, who did incredibly well raising money and awareness about L'Arche. They had a memorably fun day taking pictures and sailing through London in a cardboard boat!
