As an employer, we encourage applications from everybody irrespective of religion, faith, disability,sex [1], sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity, and age.

When you look at one of our job packs, you may think you don’t meet all of the criteria we are looking for in our ideal candidate. However, if you are really keen and interested in the role, we would still encourage you to apply. No candidate meets all the criteria – and you might just be the right person for the role. We are happy to support people to learn new skills, to provide training and to make adjustments, to make the job work for the right person.

Applying for a job if you have a disability

If you have a disability, we want to make applying for a role in L’Arche as straightforward as possible. You may want to request an adjustment in the recruitment process, which would enable you apply and show up as your best self. If so, you can contact the hiring manager named in the job pack and they will do their best to accommodate your needs.

Or you may need reasonable adjustments to be made, to enable you to do the role you are applying for. If so, we would encourage you to discuss this during your interview.

The recruitment process

If you apply for a job in L’Arche, this is what the process will look like:

Application

You answer questions in an online application form and share your CV with us. You may also be asked for a cover letter to support your application.

Selection

We select the best candidates, according to the criteria indicated in the job advert, and invite them to an interview. To ensure the selection process is fair, we often anonymise applications, removing the applicant’s personal details prior to selection.

Interview

Interviews take place online or in-person. We will often share with you beforehand our interview topics or questions, so you can come prepared. Interview panels often include someone with a learning disability, as many roles require skills in interacting with people who communicate in non-normative ways.

Submitting a strong application

If you are invited to include a cover letter, we would strongly advise you to submit one. Pay careful attention to the qualifications and skills named in the job advert.

In your letter, you should focus on your motivation (Why L’Arche? Why this role?) and summarise the particular skills or experiences you would offer. Provide evidence of your competency by describing what you did, how you did it, why you did it, and the impact it had. Make sure your writing is clear, concise and well-structured.
