Job title: Support Worker

Reports to: Service Coordinator/Deputy Service Coordinator

Hours of work: Cover sick days and absences 

Salary: £10.50 per hour

Place of work: In and around Inverness

Main purpose of the role: As a support worker you will support people with learning disabilities living in a variety of settings, in line with agreed support and care plans, in all aspects of their everyday lives. You will deliver practical, physical and emotional support to people with learning disabilities, whilst proactively promoting choice, independence and self-determination.

Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Provide high-quality support to people with learning disabilities in line with L’Arche values, policies and procedures, Reach Standards in supported living and the requirements of the SSSC Codes of Practice;
  • Facilitate individuals to meet their leisure, social, practical and spiritual needs and promote their ongoing development of independence;
  • Assist with household maintenance, including shopping, cooking cleaning and laundry;
  • Work as one of a team;
  • Be responsible for clear communication with professionals, families of people whom L’Arche support, advocates, neighbours, visitors and other members of L’Arche who are in contact with the house;
  • Attend training and formation courses as applicable to this community role;

You must be prepared to work flexibly, which will include working evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Skills, Experience and Knowledge


  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
  • SQV2 Social Care or equivalent, or willingness to learn
  • An approachable and friendly manner, and ability to work as a team member
  • Ability to work on your own, prioritise and organise, and deal with unplanned events
  • Ability to be a good role model for the people we support


  • Experience of lone working and supported living
  • Understanding of person-centred approaches in social care
  • Knowledge of SSSC Codes of Practice
  • Understanding of the principles of supported living
  • Cooking/housekeeping skills
