The world has got darker this year for people with learning disabilities. So this is not our usual Advent appeal.
For 47 years, L’Arche Communities in the UK have been a light for a world where all can belong. However, the social care industry is faced with its worst crisis yet: the tightest COVID restrictions in the country, post-Brexit immigration rules, chronically low government funding and heartbreaking gaps in our teams.
But as Christmas approaches this year, we are celebrating the compassion and courage of L’Arche’s House Leaders up and down the UK. They are the everyday heroes who make L’Arche a beacon of light, dealing with the crisis where it hits hardest, working for a more caring world.
So watch and read their stories – and donate all you can to support them and L’Arche this Advent.
We need your help more than ever.
''Not having enough assistants puts big pressure on me and my team and on the people with disabilities we support.''
''We have a lady who really loves going dancing, and sometimes we can’t do that, because there’s no one to take her.''
''If you are living with people all the time, it is also important to time away from the house. That is not always possible.''
