Place: Wincheap locality. However you may be required to work at any service, determined by the needs of the community.
Responsible to: Locality Leader

Working Hours: This role is full-time 37.5 hours. The employed hours will include up to 24 hours for management and leadership tasks, detailed below. For the remainder of the working week the Deputy Locality Leader will fulfil the duties of a Support Assistant (see that job description). Hours will be worked flexibly across the week, including evenings and weekends. You may be required to provide some sleep-in and waking night duties. You are invited to attend Community activities that are not part of your working hours.

Main purpose of role

  • To undertake delegated duties and tasks by the Locality Leader and thereby contributing to shared leadership of the Locality. The purpose of this shared leadership is:
  1. To lead and manage a locality comprising a range of services for people with a learning disability and a team of Support Assistants.
  2. To maintain a sense of community within the locality and to lead service delivery in line with L’Arche values and the requirements of the Care Quality Commission [CQC] and KCC Commissioning.
  3. To facilitate the faith and social life of the locality.
  • To Deputise for the Locality Leader in their absence

Main Duties and Tasks

1) To provide regular recorded formal induction, formation, supervision and appraisal to a group of Support Assistants.
2) To lead regular team meetings; to lead periodic meetings with the people supported; to liaise with professionals, families and other support providers as required by individual’s support plans and the needs of the services.
3) To undertake delegated duties by the Locality Leader. Such duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Rota setting for the locality, including cover and management of annual leave
  • Coordination of training for assistants
  • Responsibility for petty cash and other financial duties
  • Overseeing Health and Safety for the locality including delegation and coordination of regular checks and recording
  • Overseeing medication management for the locality in line with policy.
  • To ensure an effective Key worker system is in place, and to deputise in the absence of a Key Worker in attending formal review and planning meetings and other professionals meetings.

4) To provide an effective channel of communication and information from and to the locality leader, verbally, in writing and by email.
5) To act as a point of liaison for professionals, family members and other involved individuals.
6) General

  1. To participate in the on call rota as required
  2. To attend all meetings and Community events relevant to the role.
  3. To participate in L’Arche UK and L’Arche International meetings and events as required.
  4. To attend formation and training courses as required, with the agreement of the Locality Leader.
  5. To perform any other reasonable duties commensurate with the post which may be required from time to time by L’Arche.
