Joining a L'Arche Community

members

If someone thinks they’d like to live in a L’Arche Community they should get in touch with that Community. L’Arche doesn’t keep waiting lists but when there’s a vacancy we contact everyone who’s said they are interested.

The person who’s interested will be invited to visit the Community with their relatives, a friend, an advocate or a social worker. There will be several visits, each longer than the previous one. Eventually someone will be invited for a three month trial. If it works out they’ll be offered the place permanently.

It’s a whole Community decision to offer the place. It has to be agreed between all the people who already live in the house as well as the people connected with the person with learning disabilities who wants to live in L’Arche.

Diverse needs are met by person-centred support.

  • L’Arche Communities are places where professionalism goes hand in hand with real commitment
  • L’Arche strives to meet the highest standards of individual support in partnership with other professional agencies
  • Members with and without learning disabilities are helped and encouraged to play as full a part as possible in decision-making throughout L’Arche
  • L’Arche attracts a huge variety of skills to its local Committees, enriching and strengthening the professional basis of its work
