Henri Nouwen (pronounced Now-wen) was an important writer about spirituality. He spent the last twelve years of his life living in a L'Arche Community in Toronto, Canada. He was pastor of L’Arche Daybreak, in Ontario.
Henri was born in Holland. His spiritual journey took him to America. There he became a writer, an academic and a theologian. He also campaigned for social justice. He died in 1996 aged 64. He had produced more than forty books. Many of them were written while he was living in L’Arche.
Henri's books have influenced many people. They can relate to the things he shares about his own life. His experiences of vulnerability help others to recognise Jesus in their own life.
