A day in the life of an Assistant

Assistants helping play pool

Early rise some days from your own room in the house. You’ll help with waking up, breakfast, getting ready for work and transport on week-days. Most UK Communities have workshops or retirement programmes. There’s a team check-in time to plan the day's diary. Weekly meetings focus on ways to help the members with a disability coordinate their plans and goals.

You might be working with others on household tasks. Or liaising with others within and without the Community. Or meeting with others for team-building, training, support and ongoing evaluative reflection.

The middle of the day will bring a few hours free time. Late afternoon the full house life resumes. There are appointments, returning home, visitors. The kitchen is a hive of activity ahead of the evening meal. There might be a birthday to celebrate or a guest. There are plans for the evening for an individual or house activity. Then it’s winding down and helping with night-time routines.
