At L'Arche London we give time to practical, emotional and spiritual needs.
L'Arche London provides person centred, individual support and care to adults with learning disabilities. Some people are supported in their own homes or in our day services for a few hours per week; others are supported twenty-four hours a day in our supported living or shared community homes.
Our aim is for people to find a sense of belonging, where they are valued for who they are and not only for what they can do. In L'Arche people with learning disabilities and the people who support them share their lives together, discovering that each one can give and receive from the other.
Some of our team have been with L'Arche for over 30 years, and we are committed to far more than service provision. Our aim is to create a sense of friendship, belonging and care, close to the heart of London.
Our support and services:
We provide specialist day services, supported living and registered care homes - all within walking distance of West Norwood High Street in south London.
Our Support and care is dedicated to enable people with a learning disability to flourish through tailored support and life skills development plans. Consistent and professional 24 hrs support is adapted to meet the individual’s changing needs or ambitions and it is provided by our dedicated team.
High quality person-centred support focuses on:
- Developing skills for daily life and skills for meaningful participation in the local community
- Supported access to education, volunteering and activities in the local area
- A commitment to work alongside family, friends and other significant people as the person wishes
- A multi-disciplinary and multi-agency approach.
Additional care and support can be provided, either by L’Arche or by another provider, subject to funding being agreed.
L'Arche London's specialist day services provide therapeutic work and opportunities for adults with learning disabilities in an environment where people can develop skills that build self-confidence and encourage independence. People are enabled to take part in practical work, supporting them to lead productive and fulfilling lives. This is based in our craft workshop and shop on Norwood High Street and in our Community Garden nearby.
We offer both therapeutic and work opportunities. As well as craft and gardening we provide other activities such as art, music, dance and drama. Our main focus is to support the development of creativity, independence, confidence and ability to work as part of a team, while learning new skills. We foster meaningful interaction with the community by:
- Selling our products alongside other artists in our shop on Norwood High Street and at local markets and craft fairs
- Holding regular open days and exhibitions
- Running at least two drama productions a year and performing at local shows and festivals.
L'Arche London has Christian roots, but we are open to people of different or no faith. Our aim is to ensure that people can draw on the resources of their own spiritual life and we believe this make us better able to care for people's emotional and practical needs.
We currently do not have vacancies in our supported living or registered care homes, but there is limited availability on some week days in our specialist day services. People with or without disabilities are also welcome to join our community events, which are advertised on our events pages.
However we are always very happy to meet people considering support for a family member or friend, or to discuss possibilities with care managers. Choosing the right service for an individual is a difficult process, and we are happy to do what we can do to help.
